Dr. Dave Mutch accepts a check for $35,000 to the Siteman Cancer Center in September 2010.

The Families Run for Ovarian Cancer, or FamiliesROC, will hold its 5th annual ROC STAR 5K and 1 mile run/walk on Sunday, Sept. 25, at Forest Park. The race starts at 9 a.m. from the Muny's upper parking lot.

The event was conceived by the family of Brenda Jorgensen as she fought her own battle with ovarian cancer. The money raised is given to the Siteman Cancer Center to fund ovarian cancer research. In 2010, the organization donated $35,000 to such research.

Register online or get more information at the FamiliesROC website.

Ovarian cancer survivor Joanne Henderson shares a light moment with Buckles the Clown at the race.
