SLOCA’s first wine tasting on Oct. 12 succeeded in raising more than $1,400 and attracted a group of people who had never before attended a SLOCA event.

The tasting was at the trendy new wine bar and restaurant, 3500 Winehaus, at 3500 Watson Road at Potomac Avenue. The restaurant and Golden Barrel Wine Company provided the wine and hors d’oeuvres so all proceeds from the $20 tickets benefited SLOCA.

3500 Winehaus rigged up a big-screen TV on the patio so participants could watch the Cards take on the Brewers in Game 3 of the NL Championship series. They sampled five varieties of wine, including chardonnay and zinfandel. Wine purchased from the sampling were discounted for ticket holders.

SLOCA President Beth Hudson was thrilled with the event and said she hoped to repeat it next year. She gave special thanks to her friend, Pamela Koenig Eusterbrock, for organizing it and to 3500 Winehaus and the Golden Barrel Wine Company.
