Treatment

The standard treatment of ovarian cancer depends on the stage at which it is diagnosed. Most often, treatment begins with debulking surgery and is followed with chemotherapy.

For more detailed information on treatment and its side effects, consult the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance website.

Research shows that when a gynecologic oncologist performs the debunking surgery rather than a surgeon outside of that specialty, the outcome is significantly better. Fortunately, St. Louis is home to many gynecologic oncologists at several cancer centers. To locate a GYN oncologist, go to the website of the Foundation for Women's Cancer and click on Find A Gynecologic Oncologist.
